The national lottery determines its random numbers using classical physics because the balls are made of millions of atoms. The rules of physics at the atomic scales are very different from every day life and are determined by Quantum Mechanics. In the Many Worlds Interpretation (see Quantum Mechanics), it is postulated that when a measurement is made the universe splits into many copies so that all possible outcomes occur in one part of the multi-verse. If a quantum process determined the lottery numbers every possible number would win, meaning all of us would be lottery winners in one world!!
