It is possible to derive expressions for individual Wick contractions of QCD mesonic correlation functions in a model-independent way in chiral effective theory. The results reveal correlations amongst the different contractions in terms of low-energy constants. In view of lattice QCD simulations this allows for extrapolating data for individual Wick contractions. Two examples, the leading hadronic vacuum polarisation and the scalar pion form factor are discussed.
